Scrape off that winter coat, dust off the saddle and get warmed up because the trail ride season is in full effect, and Semien Stables has set it off in a big way. A congregation of thousands of travelers rode onto the West Cal Arena Friday, the first day of the annual Semian Stables Trail Ride and Scholarship Fund.

Each spring, Semien Stables invites families and trail riders from all over the country to their annual event at the West Cal Arena in Sulphur, Louisiana. The event raises money to provide scholarships for worthy high school graduates in Sulphur. This year’s event was held April 21st through the 23rd.

Their mission is to give back to the city of Sulphur for being a gracious host of their events over the years and to reward a hard working student whom has established themselves as a community leader. The scholarship is then decided by the schools that each individual attend.

“My hobby is horses. It’s embedded and engraved in me from a child. Horses are a Semien family tradition, and we will continue to carry that on. When you go to a Semien trail ride, you don’t need or have to ride horses, or even have boots, because it’s a family affair. You can bring your entire family to a Semien Stable trail ride and have an unbelievable experience.” said Pop Semien.

Semien Stables have built a brand of excellence and they did not disappoint. The weekend kicked off on Friday night with a “White Party” benefit concert with Chris Ardoin & Nustep Zydeko and closed out by the one and only Bun B. The smells of fresh southern Louisiana cuisines filled the air as vendors prepared for a crowd of thousands.

Saturday night was “Pinked Out” in honor of those who lost their battle with cancer and for those who have overcame a battle with cancer. Brian Jack & The Zydeco Gamblers had the entire West Cal Arena dancing to Zydeco well into the night.

Sunday began with a traditional trail ride of hundreds on horseback and party wagons through city of Sulphur, led by the members of Semien Stables. After hours in the saddle, the evening wasn’t over because Lil Nathan & The Zydeco Big Timers were just getting started and closed the event out leaving the crowd wanting more. That all has to wait another year for one of the best trail rides and benefit concerts in the country. If you haven’t done so already, mark your calendars for the next Semien Stables trail ride.
